How do I find out if I qualify for homecare?
For an overview, please go to Who Qualifies for Homecare?

How does VNSW get paid?
VNSW bills the reimbursing organization directly and accepts payment as per the service contract with the insurer. No payment by the patient is required other than whatever co-payments and deductibles may be part of the patient's insurance contract. In some cases, the deductible amount may already have been satisfied by the patient's visit(s) to his/her physician. As a patient service, immediately upon the doctor's referral for home health care services, VNSW will do an insurance verification and advise the patient as to the exact coverage. In any event, VNSW never turns anyone away because of lack of ability to pay for care.

What insurance does VNSW accept?
VNSW accepts reimbursement, on an assignment basis, from a wide array of public and private reimbursement sources. For the most current information regarding Insurers/Reimbursement Accepted by Visiting Nurse Services in Westchester, please call our Admissions Department at (914) 682-1480, Ext. 621.

Do Medicare and Medicaid pay for your services?
Yes – VNSW is a Medicare/Medicaid certified agency.

How do I request the services I need?
You may request services by completing our online Request Services Form, or by calling the Admissions Department at (914) 682-1480, Ext. 621. Your physician and/or your family may also call on your behalf. Regardless how the referral is made, our nurses will call your physician to discuss your condition and any skilled needs that you have.

How soon can I get a nurse?
Once the Admissions Department receives the request, a nurse will visit you within 24 hours. This first visit is considered an evaluation visit. It allows the nurse to assess your needs in the home, gather clinical information and confirm which medications you are taking. The nurse will then discuss her clinical findings with your physician, to ensure that he/she is in agreement with the nurse’s assessment. A plan of care will then be developed which will address all your home care needs.

What hours do your nurses work?
The nurse usually works during the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. However, a nursing supervisor is “On Call” 24 hours a day/ 7 days per week, and is available by phone to address any “after hour” issues.

If I’m not sure what I need, whom should I contact?
First consult with your physician, who knows your medical history and can prescribed home health care services. However, you can call the Admissions Department (914) 682-1480, Ext. 621 and a nurse will answer any questions that you have.

What if the patient and/or caregiver speak little or no English?
VNSW subscribes to a 24-hour language line staffed by Certified Medical Interpreters who speak more than 150 languages and dialects. Bicultural nurses are available for patient treatment. For details, call (914) 682-1480, Ext. 621.

What should I do in case of emergency?
In case of emergency, always call 911 first! VNSW can receive patient referrals directly from an Emergency Room with a physician’s referral.
